Learning A New Skill

Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever. – Mahatma Gandhi

If you have 20 minutes, watch this video. It is totally worth it.

Josh Kaufman, author of The Personal MBA, says that according to his research, the infamous “10,000 hours to learn anything” is actually, false.

If you want to become an expert in a very competitive task, skill or field, it will take 10,000 hours to achieve it but to if you just want to go from being a newbie and knowing nothing to being quite good, that actually takes just 20 hours. This is the same than 45 minutes a day for one month.

How? Basically, he mentions just four parts.

The quick path to learning:

          1. Split the skill. Decide what you actually want  to do or what is harder for you to learn.
          2. Learn enough to self correct. Learn just enough in order you were able to tell when you are making a mistake.
          3. Remove Practice Barriers: remove any distraction like TV, internet, radio, laziness, etc.
          4. Practice at least 20 hours.
